Johannesburg: Engaging locals in dialogue

Anthony Mmatli, voicesofAfrica mobile reporter in Johannesburg, South Africa (4 April 2011) Housing problems, health, education and sanitation are priority issues for the community of Alexandra, in Johannesburg. There exists no communication or a platform that gives communities the opportunity to speak or say their minds to the government about their needs.
To respond to that need, Lifeline, a Johannesburg-based organization, has launched a project that would allow locals to express their views. The project hopes to get the community to stand together, sit, talk and take action about their own issues.
