Professor Tariq Ramadan at the University of Johannesburg



On Monday, 29 October 2012, the Department of Religion Studies at the University of Johannesburg and the Mail and Guardian hosted Professor Tariq Ramadan for a public lecture on Muslims, Humour and the Prophet Muhammad.
The event was attended by over 300 people and was chaired by Professor Adam Habib, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Johannesburg.
Tariq Ramadan is Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani Professor of Contemporary Islamic Studies at Oxford University. He holds a MA in Philosophy and French literature and PhD in Arabic and Islamic Studies from the University of Geneva. His books include The Arab Awakening: Islam and the New Middle East; The Quest for Meaning, Developing a Philosophy of Pluralism and Radical Reform, Islamic Ethics and Liberation.
