Interview: Professor Charles Amjad-Ali and Professor Farid Esack



The Department of Religion Studies at the University of Johannesburg hosted Professor Charles Amjad-Ali from 20 August 2013 until 24 August 2013. During this time, the Head of the Religion Studies Department, Professor Farid Esack, conducted an interview with Professor Amjad-Ali.
Professor Esack is a Professor in the Study of Islam and the Head of the Department of Religion Studies at the University of Johannesburg. Professor Esack completed his PhD at the University of Birmingham, England, and has held teaching posts at numerous international universities including Harvard Divinity School.
Professor Charles Amjad-Ali has an MDiv and a PhD in theology and political theory from Princeton Theological Seminary. He holds the Martin Luther King Jr. Chair of Justice and Christian Community at Luther Seminary in St Paul, USA. Professor Amjad-Ali currently serves at the University of the Western Cape as the Desmond Tutu Chair of Ecumenical Theology and Social Transformation in Africa.
